About Starr

As Director of Planning & Assessment, Dr. Starr Hoffman leads strategic planning, organizational development, and assessment across the UNLV Libraries to demonstrate impact, support decision-making, and improve services. Previously, she was Head of the Journalism Library at Columbia University (New York, NY) and Head of the Government Documents Department at the University of North Texas Libraries (Denton, TX).

Her research draws on her expertise in assessment, academic administration, and impact of libraries on students and faculty. Her scholarship includes an edited book, six book chapters, five peer-reviewed articles, and 28 refereed presentations. She was awarded the 2017 UNLV Libraries’ Outstanding Library Faculty Scholarship Award in recognition of her contribution to the profession. She holds a PhD in Higher Education (2012), a Master’s in Library Science (2006), and a MA in Art History (2004). Her dissertation studied the educational attainment of academic library deans and their preparation for administrative roles.
